No 230 Guided Tour

Bach’s Leipzig Contemporaries – A Dialogue of Personalities
In Bach’s time, Leipzig was becoming an intellectual, cultural, and social hub. It was here that Bach lived and worked for nearly three decades. Join us on a walking tour that brings 18th-century Leipzig to life – with stories and historical insights about people who, like Bach, helped shape the rich tapestry of this Baroque city of music, trade, and learning. The focus is on both the quiet and powerful voices around him: the women at his side, influential scholars and theologians, writers, publishers, painters, and headmasters of the St. Thomas School. We also encounter the writer who collaborated with Bach on many of his vocal works – a creative dialogue that still resonates today. Discover a Leipzig that was far more than just a backdrop to Bach’s music – it was a place of lively exchange and intellectual resonance.
