Kulukundis, a shipping company owner from New York and studied musicologist, started his collection on the Bach family back in the 1960s and has always devoted himself to music research alongside his business. He was particularly interested in Johann Sebastian Bach's sons: Wilhelm Friedemann, Carl Philipp Emanuel, Johann Christoph Friedrich and Johann Christian. The music collection includes numerous letters, music manuscripts and rare first and early prints by the four Bach sons.

The first music page of »Zanaida«At the heart of the collection is the autograph score of the opera »Zanaida« by Johann Christian Bach, which was long thought to be lost. This dramatic work, which premiered at the King's Theatre in London on May 7, 1763, celebrated its revival almost 250 years later as part of the Leipzig Bach Festival 2011 at the Goethe-Theater in Bad Lauchstädt.

For the first time, the more than 1,000 objects in the Bach Archive are available without restriction for musical research. Scholars and music lovers from all over the world can get an overview in the online catalog of the Bach Archive library; the particularly valuable pieces of the collection are also available online as digital copies at Bach digital.
