No 19 Organ concert

J. S. Bach: Clavier-Übung, part III, BWV 552 and 669–689
Artists: Collegium Vocale Leipzig, direction: Gewandhausorganist Michael Schönheit (organ)
In 1739, the Leipzig Thomaskantor, Johann Sebastian Bach, published as Part III of his »Clavier-Übung« an extensive collection of liturgical organ music. The volume opens and concludes with the Prelude and Fugue in E flat major, BWV 552, and includes a large number of chorale arrangements using a variety of compositional techniques. In their Bachfest concerts, two outstanding Leipzig organists will be making reference to this collection: Gewandhaus organist Michael Schönheit will play numerous extracts from the cycle in their original settings, while the organist of St. Thomas’, Johannes Lang, will play works by Bach interspersed with settings of the same chorales by other composers, such as Max Reger, Johann Ludwig Krebs and Georg Böhm.
